Abstract

Introduction: The emphasis of World Health Organization on importance of  social health, along with physical health, have turned social health into a common concern for social planners in all societies. Thus, present study attempts to study the effectiveness of psychological empowerment on social health of aging women in Tehran.
 Methods: This experimental study was conducted with a pretest-posttest design with control group. The statistical population included all women aged 60 to 70 years in Tehran in 2020-2021. Twenty-four people (12 in the control group and 12 in the experimental group) were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups by available sampling method. Using a pre-test and post-test pilot design with the control group, the aging first completed the Keyes social health questionnaire and then the experimental application of psychological empowerment was performed in 8 sessions on the experimental group and after the post-test sessions was presented for both groups. Multivariate analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data using SPSS v.19 software.
Results: The results showed that psychological empowerment training program on social actualization (F=10.278 and P=0.005), Social integration (F= 19.303 and P=0.001), Social coherence (F=10.685 and P=0.005), social acceptance (F=11.422 and P=0.004) and social contribution (F= 9.649 and P=0.006) There was a significant difference between the two groups in the two stages of evaluation has done. This means that the psychological empowerment program promoted the social health of the aging.
Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it can be said that psychological empowerment program is effective on the components of social health of older women and the knowledge of experts in the fields of counseling, aging, psychology and health of these trainings can be helpful.

Abstract


Background : Due to the development of science, life expectancy has increased and the number of elderly people in the world is growing. As such, all countries face major challenges to ensure that their health and social systems are ready to manage this demographic change. Therefore, the aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of salutogenic empowerment based on body knowledge on the quality of life and life expectancy of the elderly with chronic diseases.
Methods: In terms of the nature of the collected data, the present research is part of quantitative studies, in terms of purpose it is part of applied studies, and in terms of method, it is part of semi-experimental designs with pre-test and post-test of several groups with a control group and with follow-up. The statistical population of the research consists of all elderly people with chronic diseases under the welfare support of Bam in 1400. The sample of the research was 40 of these elderly people who were selected in a purposeful way and randomly assigned to two groups, including the experimental group and the control group (20 people in each group). The measuring tools of the research were the health-related quality of life questionnaires of Lipad and Miller's life expectancy questionnaire. SPSS software and univariate analysis of variance test were used to analyze the data.
Results: The results showed that salutogenic empowerment based on body knowledge has an impact on the quality of life and life expectancy of the elderly with chronic diseases.
Conclusion: The results indicated the effect of salutogenic empowerment based on body knowledge on the quality of life and life expectancy of the elderly with chronic diseases. Therefore, it is suggested that counselors and therapists use salutogenic empowerment training based on body knowledge to increase life expectancy and raise the quality of life of the elderly.
