Abstract:   (35 Views)

Introduction: Epidemiological studies show that anxiety disorders are the most common mental disorders with a prevalence of 16-29% and have high treatment costs in older people. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between ambivalence in expressing emotion and behavioral inhibition with anxiety severity in older with anxiety disorders.
Methodology: The design of the research was descriptive and correlational. The statistical population included all older (20 to 55 years old) suffering from generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and panic disorder who referred to 8 psychiatric and psychological centers in Kerman city in a period of 3 months in the spring of 2024. 217 older people were selected as a sample by simple random sampling method. Beck's anxiety questionnaire (1990), ambivalence in emotion expression by King and Imos (1990) and Carver-White's behavioral inhibition (1994) were applied to them. Data analysis was done with descriptive tests (mean and standard deviation) and regression using SPSS version 23 software. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant.
Results: The results showed that there was a significant relationship between ambivalence in emotional expression and behavioral inhibition with the severity of anxiety in older with anxiety disorders.
Conclusion: It is recommended to counselors and psychologists to identify factors affecting the severity of anxiety such as ambivalence in expressing emotions and behavioral inhibition to reduce the problems of older with anxiety disorders.
